Dear Concord Neighbors,
I am Karlen Reed, and I am running for the Concord Select Board.
Why? Because I believe in Concord and I believe in helping my community. Over half of my 30+ years as a lawyer have been spent working in public service, and I have long been a volunteer in civic groups.
Now retired, I am serving the Town as Chair of the Town’s PEG Access Advisory cable TV committee. I am an active member of the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle. Also, I served as a 2020 Election poll worker. I have the time, energy, patience, skills, and desire to serve on the Select Board as we move forward.
We have numerous challenges ahead. Our recent transition of power at the presidential level and the COVID-19 virus have reminded us that we cannot take our health or safety for granted. Nor should we assume that our infrastructure will always support us without constant attention. One of the primary reasons people move to Concord is for the school system, and we are in the midst of designing a new Middle School. Our housing diversity and density levels are testing the Town’s ability to grow in a thoughtful manner. Recreational opportunities, open space, wildlife, and our unique heritage enhance Concord’s character as a place people want to visit, work, and live. We need to upgrade our telecommunications and cable services, and we need to make Concord more sustainable.
My goal in serving Concord on the Select Board is to meet these challenges, balancing our Town’s wants and needs with our budget and timelines.
